surprises the public with its rare combination of creative power, sensitivity and virtuous technique. These qualities have made her a leader in the development of marimba as a concert instrument. Its dominance of an overwhelming repertoire allows its performances to range from solo concerts to camera music and improvisations. While her compositions have become marimba literature standards, many composers have dedicated her new works and she has inspired and premiered countless new compositions.
In addition to her work as an emerical professor of music at the Toho Gakuen Music School in Tokyo, Japan, she has a demand as an invited teacher and has taught teachers in more than 100 of the main musical conservatories of North America, Europe and Asia. It has also released more than 50 recordings and received numerous awards, including becoming the first woman elected to the Society of Percussion Fame Hall in 1993.
