The drumsticks 5B are indicated for those who need a little more weight or thickness and are after the 5A the more used. They have a standard length of 16” (40 cm) and 0.595 in diameter.
The wood
The Hickory (American Walnut) is the wood most used in the manufacture drumsticks by the great resistance to bear blows. The Hickory is more dense than the maple (about 10%) and less than the Japanese oak (about 10% too). The density and the natural sensation of this wood makes it the preferred by a vast majority of drummers.
The Lug
Vic Firth was the first manufacturer to offer nylon tips and allows percussionists to change the wealth the wood, nylon shine without sacrificing the feeling and balance. And with the injection moulding process, they won't blow up or fly, guaranteed!
Vic Firth was a pioneer in the process of nylon tip injection moulding drumsticks. By merging nylon with the wood, is guaranteed the tips don't jump or fly. The injection process also allows to create complex and precision forms that match exactly with their wooden tip equivalents.
