The drumsticks 7A are perfect for low-volume situations. It's a drumstick 5A slightly reduced but with great balance. Perfect when the speed and touch are the top priority. Yeah the drumsticks 5A are too heavy for you, perhaps these are yours drumsticks.
The wood
The Hickory (American Walnut) is the wood most used in the manufacture drumsticks by the great resistance to bear blows. The Hickory is more dense than the maple (about 10%) and less than the Japanese oak (about 10% too). The density and the natural sensation of this wood makes it the preferred by a vast majority of drummers.
