Drummer and engineer Rick Grossman saw a trend in sporting goods during the 1990s. Wooden baseball bats and hockey sticks were replaced by lighter and more durable aluminum ones. Grossman thought that this technology could be applied to drumsticks and developed a prototype and the Ahead company was born. Ahead drumsticks have found favour with Metal artists and a host of drummers of other styles and today can be seen in the hands of Lars Ulrich, Mick Fleetwood, and Tommy Lee, to name a few.
